Bracketology with Pat Hammett!
Michigan Engineering Professors share their tips for picking the perfect March Madness bracket.
March Madness is here! And with that comes the sacred tradition of filling out a tournament bracket.
With 68 teams, 67 games, and 65,536 possible Final Four team combinations, the odds of picking a perfect tournament bracket are one in a trillion. To increase your chances, the College of Engineering turned to their experts, including ISD's own Pat Hammett, for their take on the best strategies for filling out a winning card.
"Statistically," says Professor Hammett, "if you pick enough of the likely winners, you're going to usually do okay." Luckily for U-M fans, we don't have to sacrifice odds for allegiance. The men's basketball team was a top seed pick this year, having just won the Big Ten Tournament title on March 12.
Pat Hammett serves as Director of Academic Programs and Learning Systems and Lead Faculty of Six Sigma Programs. He is also a proud season ticket holder for the University of Michigan men's basketball team. The Division I Men's Basketball Tournament begins on Thursday, March 16. The Wolverines (no. 7) take on Oklahoma State (no. 10) on Friday, March 17 at 12:15 EST.
