Course Description


This course describes how manufacturing enterprises should deploy globalization strategies that include issues such as fitting the product to the region in which it intends to be sold, selecting the best manufacturing configuration to enhance productivity, and optimizing the location of factories. It mainly focuses on how to construct the three main units of manufacturing enterprises—product design, manufacturing, and business model—to make them more responsive to market changes.

Globalization and manufacturing paradigms. Product-process-business integration. Product invention strategy. Customized, personalized and reconfigurable products. Mass production and lean production. Mathematical analysis of mass customization. Traditional manufacturing systems. Reconfigurable manufacturing systems. Reconfigurable machines. System configuration analysis. Responsive business models. Enterprise globalization strategies. The global integrated enterprise.

One 400-level Manufacturing, Design, or Business class.
