Program Director, Manufacturing Engineering
Professor, Integrative Systems + Design
Professor, Industrial Operations Engineering

  • Professor Jin's teaching and research interests are primarily in the areas of industrial statistics and quality engineering. Her recent research focuses on data fusion for complex system modeling, design innovation, and performance improvement decision making, which requires integration of system control theory, signal processing, data mining, applied statistics, DOE, quality and reliability engineering. Her research has been applied to various automotive and semiconductor manufacturing processes, transportation, and human decision support systems.

She is an associate editor of International Journal of Flexible Manufacturing Systems and a board member of IIE Transaction on Quality and Reliability Engineering. She is a member of ASME, ASQC, IIE, INFORMS, and SME. She received numerous awards including Excellence at the Student Interface Award, Best Paper Awards, and prestigious Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). She received both her B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Southeast University and completed her Ph.D in Industrial & Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan.

Professor Jin can be heard here discussing the re-emergence of Manufacturing and UM's role in preparing today's modern manufacturing engineer.
