Lean Specialist and Instructor
Richard Fleming has assisted manufacturing companies and service firms with lean enterprise transformation and organizational development around the principles of the Toyota Production System for more than 20 years. His expertise has been used by leaders to achieve product and process enhancements that resulted in improved productivity, quality, and service.
Richard has worked with a diverse group of clients from manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare organizations, and food/chemical processors. For the past six years Richard has been a lead instructor for GRCC's Lean Certification Program and a Shingo Prize Examiner. He assisted Metalworks (2007 Shingo Prize) and Micron Manufacturing (2008 silver medallion Shingo Prize) with their journeys to operational excellence. He has worked with Mike Rother and Kiyoshi Suzaki to develop the CI User Group approach to networking and shared learning based on TPS techniques and principles.
He has held several leadership positions and received his Masters of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. Rick's current focus is on helping companies understand how to create and align their leadership systems to support operational changes to lean thinking and drive a daily continuous improvement philosophy through visual management, lean tool implementation and practicing the "Toyota Kata."
