What is the difference between the Certificate in Lean Manufacturing and the Master Certificate in Lean Manufacturing?
The Certificate in Lean Manufacturing is a two-week program consisting of Lean Manufacturing Essentials (Week 1) and supplementary Lean Manufacturing tools and methods (Week 2 – Maize or Blue). If you choose to come back for a third week — whichever Week 2 offering you did not complete (Maize or Blue) — you will earn the Master Certificate in Lean Manufacturing. By providing a third week of learning modules, the Master Certificate simply provides more comprehensive lean training.
Does Week 1 ever change?
No. Week 1 ('Lean Manufacturing Essentials') remains the same, regardless of which Week 2 offering you take.
What is the difference between Week 2 – Maize and Week 2 – Blue?
Both weeks offer tools, methods, and implementation techniques important to your lean learning. Completing both Maize and Blue (in addition to the standard Week 1) offers the chance to complete the full collection of U-M Lean Manufacturing learning modules, thus adding more tools to your professional development toolbelt.
How many times per year will each Week 2 (Maize and Blue) be offered?
- Offering #1: March 5-9 & April 16-20, 2018 (Blue) | Ann Arbor, MI
- Offering #2: May 21-25 & June 25-29, 2018 (Maize) | Oak Brook, IL
- Offering #3: August 6-10 & September 10-14, 2018 (Blue) | Ann Arbor, MI
- Offering #4: October 15-19 & November 12-16, 2018 (Maize) | Ann Arbor, MI
How long do I have to complete the Master Certificate?
Upon completing the two-week Certificate in Lean Manufacturing, you must complete the third week (the five-day Week 2 course you have not yet taken—Maize or Blue) within two years to earn your Master Certificate.
Note: If you earned your Certificate in Lean Manufacturing prior to 2018, you must complete your remaining modules within calendar year 2018 to earn the Master Certificate.
