Jeffrey Hartley received his Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from Arizona State University. His academic publications concern topics ranging from the nature of styles in the drawings of young children to the evolution of abstract concepts. His applied (confidential) publications reflect a similar interest in aesthetics, including studies of how the brain responds to aesthetic stimuli and research to develop globally successful vehicle designs. Currently he manages product research for luxury and midsize cars at General Motors and is GM's subject matter expert for design and inspirational research.
He has worked on several staffs at General Motors including research and development, engineering, design, and market research. This breadth of experience has led him to stress the development of shared intuition as teams develop products.
